November 18, 2011 • Dartmouth College, Hanover NH. Dartmouth may be my alma mater but I’m the first to admit it is behind the academic pack when it comes to adopting new media in film study courses. My 3D camera workshop on Friday, Nov. 18, is my effort to alter that dynamic, introducing 3D storytelling skills to students and faculty, and hopefully build enthusiasm for a broad new multidisciplinary 3D curriculum.
November 15-16, 2011 • Champlain College, Burlington VT. Champlain is emerging as a powerhouse in advanced media studies, having committed to a major expansion of facilities and curricula, including multiple new 3D course offerings for the 2o12 academic year. With the advent of 3D tablets and mobile phones, the non-theatrical application of 3D will play a major role in the professional of lives of media students soon to be entering the marketplace. In this respect Champlain is leading the way!
November 12, 2011 • Boston University. This one-day hands-on workshop will no doubt be challenging as students and faculty must absorb the theoretical and the practical in a training session of only several hours. One advantage of having presented these workshops many times before is the distillation process that occurs: the same material can be presented much efficiently in less time. Of course if I can only trim in the same way the time required for the jokes…
November 4-6, 2011 • American University, Washington DC. Karla Berry and I are continuing our rogue 3D workshops in Novermber, traveling to American University, for three days of training and workshops with faculty and staff. As additional schools join our emerging 3D Cloud network it’s important to note how fast the format is being integrated into many schools’ film and TV curriculum for the coming school year.
October 6-8, 2011 • University of Colorado Denver & Colorado State University, Ft. Collins. Karla Berry (former president of the UFVA) and I in cooperation with Panasonic are coordinating a series of 3D training workshops for educators featuring the 3DA1 camcorder. This two-day workshop in Denver will be the first in a series of training workshops for educators eager to launch 3D courses in camera, production workflow, and storytelling, in the 2012 or 2013 school years. Additional workshops will be coming to other regions of the country and Canada this fall and winter. Please watch this space for the latest listings.
August 1-6, 2011 • University Film and Video Association (UFVA) National Conference, Boston MA. The long-anticipated series of workshops are designed to help educators acquire the skills necessary to effectively teach 3D. In addition to learning basic theory and operational tips for the Panasonic 3DA1 camcorder, teachers will receive a detailed curriculum and also participate in a series of hands-on exercises that can be adapted for use later with their students. UFVA member colleges and universities may register for a Panasonic/UFVA partnership program that provides 3D cameras and equipment at substantially discounted pricing for participating schools.
